READING: Huffington Post’s “Barack Obama Prepares for War Footing”

Since 1950, presidents have signed Executive Orders to ensure preparedness during wartime,  granting them control over the flow of our nation’s resources during times of disaster. These orders have always had strict parameters limiting this power to times of crisis. In creating the order entitled “National Defense Resources Preparedness”, the President has effectively removed those limitations. The reasoning stated in the order, ”the United States must have an industrial and technological base capable of meeting national defense requirements and capable of contributing to the technological superiority of its national defense equipment in peacetime and in times of national emergency”,  along with the timing of its enactment coincide with the elevation of anti-Iran rhetoric coming from the White House.

The need to control American resources, in particular American fuel resources,  would be essential to preventing an energy crisis should a conflict arise.  The order also allows for analysis and use of labor resources, both civil and military.  An increase in defense manufacturing hires in the coming months will be a telling sign that the United States is in war preparation mode.

Moreover, Tehran has promised military retaliation against any nation it feels has harmed it. The United States is at the top of the list.
